Muscle Relaxants
A muscle relaxant is a type of drug that lessens the functioning or contraction of muscles and decreases its tonicity. This type of drug can be classified either as nueromuscular blockers or spasmolytics.
Nueromuscular blockers cause muscle relaxation and even paralysis by taking effect at the area of muscles themselves. They prevent acetylcholine released by motor nerve terminals from causing depolarization at the motor end plates. Depolarization causes muscle contraction and by preventing depolarization muscles are rendered inactive.
